Nadia Chapman

Nadia’s monthly miniature magazine Howdy is a vibrant reflection of her creativity and her ability to spread joy through a comedic and authentic voice. Through thoughtful and relevant observations, the publication captures Nadia’s distinctive style of writing and wit.Throughout the magazine, quirky illustrations, photographs, and pieces of artwork sit alongside a wide range of columns. Topics span from Art and plants to music and family traditions, each explored with humour, honesty, and curiosity. Howdy also features guest columns, bringing additional voices and perspectives into the publication.

The magazine itself has been produced in a variety of inventive formats, including a clever fold-out design that invites readers to physically engage with the publication as they solve how to unfold and explore it.

Through Howdy, Nadia has created something that encourages readers to step away from their screens and into the imaginative world of a group of teenagers. Together, they aim to make their own lives—and those of the young people around them—more colourful, creative, and empathetic.

Matilda Leat

Matilda has amazing leadership and director skills combined with creative ambition, Her previous projects with Bridport Youth Dance and Axminster Drama Club Youth have allowed her to understand how a project works behind the scenes from start to finish, including budgeting and organising individual teams within the project.

This funding will enable Matilda to create a storytelling music video told through the means of dance, entirely made by young people. This youth team will act and dance alongside Matilda, who will also direct, produce and assist in all creative elements including videography.

Parts of this music video will be filmed outside using the breathtaking natural scenery of the Jurassic coast.

No Limits Bridport (NLB) is a dance and music project which welcomes people of all ages and abilities from the community, with a particular focus on neuro divergent people and those with learning and/or physical disabilities. Since 2011 NLB has steadily grown to include a performance group, disabled led radio and inclusive street theatre events for families

The funding landscape has changed dramatically since the pandemic and although a proportion of project costs are met by participant fees (on a case-by-case basis depending on what each person can afford), NLB were seeking the support of HCA to ensure that this valuable project survives and thrives.

 

Bridport faces challenges in hidden poverty; restricted travel connections and pressures on social care which threaten the health and well-being of our vulnerable residents. NLB has its part to play in building support networks through shared face to face creative experience where trust and friendship flourishes.

 

The funding will enable NLB to offer 40 days of dance, music and visual arts workshops and performance over the next twelve months. Workshops will be delivered by the exceptional NLB creative team of arts leaders, facilitators and creative support staff.

 

NLB will take place in public facing community settings; both inside and in our local outside green spaces. Whilst the project is tailored towards the needs of disabled young people and adults; NLB welcome able bodied community members of all ages; establishing a socially integrated model visibly celebrating different life experience; tolerance; and neighbourhood cohesion. They propose to extend this offer to young people with and without learning disabilities who have recently left education and face a severely reduced range of opportunity, helping them discover their potential as they transition into adult life.
